Private tutoring at the elementary levels focuses on building strong foundations in both Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Starting at the Kindergarten level students are introduced to basic phonics, number systems, and sight words.

Grades 1 – 2 continue to expand upon the foundations of reading and begin to introduce the basics of addition, subtraction, telling time, counting money, and concepts like pictographs.

Grade 3 is a pivotal year where NYS testing begins in both Math and ELA. Introduction of multiplication tables and basic division begins at this level.

Grades 4-5 build on the foundations introduced in the previous grades and add in more complex topics like fractions, decimals, and conceptual/inference based learning.

For these levels, we work with students to build on the foundations that are introduced to them during their school day, promote confidence, and work to instill a love of learning that will carry through each consecutive grade level. Students who work with us on a consistent basis display increased performance in the classroom on quizzes and exams and begin to develop necessary study skills that help make homework a smoother more seamless process.

Private Tutoring for Middle School Students:

Middle School students are introduced to academic content that is more complex and requires higher order thinking skills. Success at the middle school level is more likely when students enter on or near grade level. Students who need to rebuild basic Math or ELA skills or who are looking to achieve greater academic success will benefit greatly from private tutoring. This is especially true if your child plans to prep for the SHSAT for entry into NYC Specialized High Schools or the TACHS Exam for entry into the Catholic High School system. Level 3 and 4 scores on the NYS Exams are critical for admission into honors programs and Regents level courses at the 8th Grade level.

Some middle school students may have the opportunity to take Regents exams during their 8th Grade year. Common exams at this level may include Algebra I, Earth Science or Living Environment, and possible U.S. History. Exam offerings vary by school. To learn more about such offerings contact the parent coordinator at your child’s school to see what may be offered to 8th-grade students.
